In de geïmproviseerde orale muziek lijkt de paradox van het subjectieve willen dat het zuivere objectieve nastreeft niet te bestaan. Dit probleem, dat in de fenomenologie is geïdentificeerd als 'intentionaliteit', wordt daarom vanuit een andere lezing van Plato - Plato als orale mysticus - benaderd. 

In improvised music musicians do not seem to experience the paradox that has been identified in phenomenology as 'intentionality': the assumption that subjective intentions can not ever reach the pure objective. To overcome this duality Plato's 'three-dimensional' antropology is introduced.
